About CKMS Jazz Education
Chief Kanim is home to two jazz bands. Jazz Ensemble I is an auditioned band that meets four days a week before school at 6:45 a.m. sharp. This group plays for a variety of festivals and competitions throughout the year as well as for our local schools and community organizations. Audition material for the upcoming school year can be found here in June.
Jazz II begins during second quarter. This ensemble rehearses during 7th period. It is open to any student committed to being a part of CKMS jazz. Students from this group are occasionally pulled up to Jazz I if the need arises. Students study the basics of jazz improvisation and spend time listening to a variety of jazz styles. All ages and instruments are welcome!
CKMS is a feeder school to Mount Si High School. All new high school students are encouraged to audition for a spot in one of their three groups at the beginning of each school year. Click here for more info about the nationally acclaimed MSHS Jazz Bands and audition materials. (NOTE: THIS IS LAST YEAR'S AUDITION MATERIAL. NEW MATERIAL WILL ARRIVE IN JUNE).
